Special Education Needs
The school has an ethos of inclusion, and provision has been made to accommodate children with physical, learning or behavioural difficulties. If you would like more information about the SEND provision at school please contact:
Miss Harrison or Mrs Butler (SENCO) 01482 825659
The parents of any potential pupil who has a Special Educational Need should contact the school so we can plan how to meet the needs of the child together with other agencies. Parents will be involved in all aspects of their child’s education. Meetings with school staff and other professionals take place on a regular basis to evaluate progress and plan for the future.
The school has accessible toilets, including rooms dedicated to support children with additional needs and wheelchair access available to all parts of the building. Please see the SEND Information report below for further details.

Special Educational Needs (SEND)
Our intent
At St Andrew's CE (VA) Primary School, we believe that all our children have the right to the best education possible.
Our intention is to offer personalised learning experiences complemented by full inclusion in a rich and broad curriculum.
We understand the importance of inclusion and equality, and work collaboratively with children, families and external agencies to secure the best outcomes.
Our offer
We have a dedicated team of staff who are constantly monitoring and updating the provision we provide to ensure that all pupils have fair access to learning and have what they need to get the most out of each day.
We provide learning experiences and support for children across the four broad areas of Special Educational Needs:
Cognition and Learning
Children with cognition and learning needs (C and L) usually learn at a slower pace to their peers even with appropriate differentiation. This area of need includes children who demonstrate features of moderate, severe or profound learning difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia or dyspraxia. Children receive targeted intervention individually or as part of a small group.
We use Dyslexia Gold Reading and Spelling to support and children and families with dyslexia.
Communication and interaction
Children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) usually have difficulty in communicating with others. This may be because they have difficulty in saying what they want to, in understanding what is being said to them or in understanding the social rules of communication. To support our children, we access support from Humber Speech and Language Therapy Service. https://www.humber.nhs.uk/Services/paediatric-speech-and-language-therapy.htm
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
Children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) may exhibit a range of the following behaviours e.g. be withdrawn or isolated, display disruptive or challenging behaviour. They may be hyperactive, or have disorders such as attention deficit disorder or attachment issues. We have two qualified ELSA’s (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) in school to support children, in addition to accessing support from Educational Psychology and the Behaviour Support Team. https://www.elsanetwork.org/about/
Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Some children have a disability which prevents them from making use of the educational facilities provided. They may require specialist support or equipment to access their learning. This area of need includes children with sensory, multisensory and physical difficulties. We access support from the Sensory and Physical Teaching Service.
